Reducing costs and increasing profit go together, so if you can find ways to be creative and make more money, you’re onto a winner!

We’ve come up with some ways you can reduce costs and increase profit on a contract:

Use concentrated chemicals

Concentrated chemicals are a great idea, because not only does it reduce single use plastics, it also means you don’t need to purchase the chemical so often, saving you money and time!

Using concentrated chemicals and reusable trigger bottles (like Triple 8 Dose) is a massive cost saving, especially on larger contracts where there is lots of chemical used every day and you need to watch your costs!   By using reusable trigger bottles, you are reducing the carbon footprint, saving plastic going into the waste stream and saving money at the same time!

Our Triple 8 Dose 1L concentrated chemicals give you enough chemical for 100 trigger bottle refills!

Use reusable cloths

Microfibre cloths are not only great at cleaning with their tiny fibre ‘hooks’ that pick up the dirt on a surface, but they can also be washed up to 200 times, meaning you can reduce the among of cloths you need to purchase for every site massively!

Microfibre has a very effective cleaning power – the tiny fibres pick up the dirt on a surface and that means you can use a lot less chemical than you would need for traditional cloths such as J-cloths.  So, by using reusable cloths, you’re not only reducing the amount of equipment you need, but also reducing the amount of chemical you use on site!

Ensure you have the correct hand towels for the dispensers

Hand towels can be confusing, but it’s worth making sure you have the best ones for your dispenser so that you can reduce wastage!

For dispensers, the best hand towel is an Z-fold towel, as the handtowels are interleaved, which means they are dispensed one by one, rather than C-fold towels which when in a dispenser come out in a big clump.

If you have hand towels in a stack on the countertop, C-fold towels are the best option as they are aren’t interleaved and therefore you can take one hand towel without knocking the stack over.

Having the wrong hand towels for the dispenser can mean your clients are using a lot more hand towels than necessary, and therefore by ensuring the correct ones are used, you can reduce usage and save money!

Online training for staff on site

Taking staff off site, or spending time training them can be expensive – especially when you have staff across multiple sites all working different shifts!

As well as fuel costs, there’s the time spent travelling and time spent training staff, which when you add it all up, it gets expensive!

Online training portals like MyTraining is a great way to reduce your costs – you don’t need to travel to site, cleaning schedules can carry on, without having to take time out to do training.

Finding ways to reduce costs can massively benefit your bottom line, but increasing profit is also important, so here’s some ideas you might find useful:

Sell consumables to the client

If you’re not already suppling the consumables to the site, this can be a great way to increase your profit without increasing the number of hours cleaning or staff on site.

It can also be very helpful to the client, as you are saving them having to order themselves and can make sure they never run out!

Maximise productivity

By maximising productivity with all your staff, and reducing the amount of travelling that has to be done, you can make your business more efficient without reducing the prices to your clients.

An example of ways to maximise productivity is to ensure your staff are all trained to the same standard, so they are always up to date with best practice; and ensuring the stock each operative needs is always on site on time, so there isn’t any time wasted on site.

Don’t be afraid to put prices up

Putting prices up can be daunting, especially when we’re in a world where costs seem to always be rising, as well as labour shortages.

However, putting prices up by even a small amount can make a big difference to your profit.  You may also find that due to the rising cost of living in the world in general, clients won’t mind a small increase in their cleaning contract!

Upsell other services you provide

By providing existing clients with other services, you can increase your profit as you can charge more for other services, at a site that you are already visiting!

It’s often said that time equals money but often it’s the little things that can make a big difference, and small incremental changes to daily activities both out on site and in the office, that can have a large impact – why not give some of these things a try!
